Meet People Share Skills

The Dunfanaghy Men’s Shed group was set up in 2012 in response to the recognition of the limited activities available for men in the area – especially men who are retired or unemployed. The group provides a space for men to socialise and an opportunity for sharing social and practical skills in a very practical way.

Members of Dunfanaghy Men’s Shed, or “Shedders” meet weekly in the Family Resource Centre on the Main Street, and have worked on numerous projects which have enhanced the whole village. These projects have included making wheelbarrows, bird boxes, garden furniture for the Gardening Group, dog kennels, a Wishing Well, bee hives, plus boxes for Tidy Towns, posters for the Dispensary campaign, work benches, doors, partitions, and installations in various around the village. Members also have the opportunity to complete courses in such things such as wood turning, first-aid, upholstery, and have also been able to meet members of other Men’s Shed groups.

The Shedders have regular social outings and liaise with the County network and National body – the Irish Mens Sheds Association. Closer to home, they make skills they have available to other Community groups whilst not substituting for, or competing with, existing traders or service providers.

The Dunfanaghy Men’s Shed welcomes new members at all times.
